Archivum Fratrum Praedicatorum

The journal was founded in 1931 with the aim of reconstructing the history of the Dominican Order from the Middle Ages to the present day, using a rigorous academic method and largely unpublished documents. It has always had a strong international character, publishing articles by eminent scholars in several languages. While its initial focus was on the institutional history of the Order (provinces, convents, monasteries) and its relations with the Apostolic See and other religious families, over time the journal has opened up to new dimensions of historical research from an interdisciplinary perspective. The study of political and cultural contexts was thus accompanied by a focus on the plurality of forms and expressions in which the historical presence of the Preachers was articulated in the philosophical and theological, literary and artistic fields.

83 volumes were published between 1931 and 2013. After a two-year hiatus, a new series was inaugurated in 2016 and articles sent to the editors are peer-reviewed.

The Editorial Board is assisted in its work by the Academic Committee, whose members come from academic and research institutions in various countries.

The Historical Institute of the Order of Preachers is solely responsible for the editing of the journal and the granting of rights for possible republication elsewhere. It relies on the Angelicum University Press for administrative and distribution support.
