This book presents the first critical edition and translation of the travel diary of an Italian journey of 1777 written in Latin by Father Ignatius Swieteczky O.P. The journey passed through the present Czech Republic, Austria, Slovenia, Italy, and Germany. Generous space has been devoted to historical, social and cultural background in an effort to place Swieteczky’s thought in its proper context.

 

Jakub Zouhar is Associate Professor of History at the University of Hradec Králové, Czech Republic. His main research areas are the European historiography in the early modern period, the Dominicans, the Jesuits, and German written culture and scholarship in the Bohemian Lands.

Petr Polehla is Assistant Professor of Latin and History at the University of Hradec Králové, Czech Republic. His main research areas include Mediaeval hagiography and Church historiography, the Jesuit theatre, and the history of the Bishopric of Hradec Králové. He is the head of the Centre for the Regional Church History at the University of Hradec Králové.
