A community of Dominican nuns settled on the banks of the Allier in the small town of Langeac, in what is now the Haute-Loire department, in September 1623. The foundation was authorised by the authorities of the Order of Preachers and supported by the monastery of Le Puy. Since then, with the exception of a break during the revolutionary period, the nuns have remained present in the town. The historical conference organised in Langeac on 22 and 23 September 2023 aimed to give an account of this rare continuity. It sought to deepen the study of the Dominican renewal of the 17th century, following the complex paths of monastic fidelity pursued despite difficulties over four centuries. In particular, the conference focused on the memory of Blessed Agnès de Jésus Galand, one of the first nuns, a source of unity and fame for the monastery.
The volume contains several historical and art-historical contributions. It can be requested from the Viella publishing house.
